Passion fuels creativity. Jex handcrafts dynamic and danceable anthems from a place of pure passion. The New Jersey-born artist, singer, songwriter, and pianist draws on a lifelong dedication to music as she seamlessly fuses kinetic electronic energy and skyscraping scope. After amassing over 100 million streams independently and receiving acclaim from EDM.com, YourEDM, and more, she deepens dance pop on a series of 2021 singles for Eddie O Entertainment/Casablanca Records and her forthcoming debut project.
“I put a lot of work, thought, and love into what I do,” she explains. “This is something I’ve wanted for my whole life. To me, it’s everything. It’s always been that way too.”
She recognized her calling as a kid in a small South Jersey farm town outsideof Philadelphia. Her father gigged regularly, and he brought Jex out on stage at a young age. She studied piano for twelve yearsand gaineda deep understanding of theory. At the same time, she taught herself how to compose by listening to everyone from Lady Gaga, Sia, and Amy Winehouse to Boston and Foreigner. Post-high school,she went to major in Music Business at Ramapo College before experiencing a revelation…
“I asked, ‘Why am I in school for this?’,” she recalls. “I always knew what I wanted to do. So, I just decided to finally do it.”
She dropped out and locked herself inside of her home studio. Her voice caught the attention of various producers, and she quietly emerged as an in-demand vocalist. In 2017, she initially teamed up with Humain for “My Way,” opening up the floodgates. She joined forces with Robin Hustin and TobiMorrow on “Light It Up,” surpassing 27.8 million Spotify streams. She landed her biggest collaboration to date by fueling “Control” by Unknown Brain and Rival to over 42 millionSpotify streams. Other bangers included Lost Sky’s “Where We Started,” posting up another 19 million Spotify streams. Meanwhile, EDM.comdescribed her collaboration with Leowi “These Days” as “a stunning dance ballad.” In 2020, she inked a publishing dealwith Ultra Publishing. During 2021, she landed a deal with Eddie O Entertainment/Casablanca Records.
Now, she introduces her signature style on the solo single “2AM.” Over glimmering piano and a glitchy disco-style beat, she flaunts her impressive vocal range on the verses before lifting a bold hook above the bass-y breakdown.
“I tried to capture the personal experience of not being able to sleep, because you’re thinking about someone,” she explains. “I’m not in love with this person, but at that time of night, it sometimes feels like you are. This person is just on your mind.”
In the end, Jex’s music will also stay on your mind.
“I’d love for my music to give listeners an escape,” she leaves off. “I’d love to help people get out of their heads, listen to the music, and visit a different place.”
